Day 3 – Amalfi

Today I spent the day in Amalfi to see the paper museum. Once Amalfi had 16 paper mills up in the Valle dei Mulini (Valley of the Mills), but now it is down to one functioning company and a museum. Here’s the scene in days past.

I walked up the Via delle Cartiere (Paper mills Street) to the museum, passing by this fountain, originally a mule watering hole. Mules were (and still are) used to carry loads up the steep terrain.

It doesn’t look like much in the foto, but enlarged you can see that now it’s covered with little carved figurines representing local daily life.
