I spent most of today in transit, traveling 3.5 hours from Venice to Pistoia. Along the way, the train passed the flat agricultural fields of Romagna.

My room at the Locanda San Marco is spacious and comfortable, one of several rooms in the 17th century Palazzo Caluri.

I took a quick walk around Pistoia and saw some paintings on the exterior of a nearby church.

And graffiti showing Christ on the phone.

At the Locanda in the evening I met members of the tour group, many of them weavers, and we headed around the corner to dinner.
At dinner, I tried sweetbreads for the first time, with radicchio and a cherry sauce. I don’t think I’ll try it again.

Tomorrow we visit Florence for a couple of textile and leather workshops.
