Day6 – Cerasa and Castelnuovo

Today we visit Cerasa, a place high in the mountains where a family of three lives and works producing local agricultural products typical to the area. It takes us 45 minutes to wind up the mountain from the valley below.

Mario, the man of the house, shepherds the rare local breed of sheep, Pecorino Garfagnina Bianca, which numbered 50,000 in 1960 and in 2003 had been reduced to about 100. With the close attention of Mario and others, the numbers now reach 700.
