Calabria

Today we traveled the road of the two seas, the highway that runs between the Tirreno and the Ionian Seas. It is a very good highway with once again very fine views. Who knew Calabria was so beautiful?!?

Driving down the Ionian Coast this morning, we passed a Norman castle perched high on a precipice.

We crossed Calabria today from Lamezia Terme heading east and stopped at about midpoint at a winery founded by a noble family, the Lente Winery.

Today we headed for the Southern coast of Calabria. The terrain is quite different, very dry. Blooming century plants line the roadside.

Once again we started the day with beautiful countryside scenery.

Today we headed to the Sila Mountains National Park, to a preserve on the land of a former Baron’s estate. The weather was perfect for such an outing. Mushrooms grow on a tree trunk.

Today we visited two small villages, both on the list of most beautiful villages in Italy. On the way we again passed gorgeous scenery.

Today we headed out from Cosenza to the town of Rossano, passing by many beautiful fields, the colors blending from browns to beiges to golds to greens, which I tried to photo as our bus sped by.

It’s goodbye to the Amalfi Coast today and to my sweet private lemon grove. Mario and his mother took me to the ferry landing just in time for quick hugs and departure. The sea journey out was a lot calmer on this sunny day than the trip in, leaving time to wonder at the many …
