Day 46 – Barga

I had plans today to go to Lucca’s Saturday market, which is held along the wall on the other side of the city from my new home. My place is on a corner with one side on the Via del Fosso, a road following a “ditch” through which water flows. The moat was built in 1376 to protect the eastern side of Lucca. It was also once used by silk producers to use hydraulic power as an innovative technique in silk production. Daniela told me that you can hear splashing in the garden when the water flows fast and furious.
