Today we left Jaipur for Ranthambore National Park, a vast wildlife reserve near the town of Sawai Madhopur. It is a former royal hunting ground and home to Bengal tigers, leopards and marsh crocodiles, among many other animals. On the way we saw vendors selling fruits by the roadside.

In the park we jumped onto large open air jeeps that took us on the trails. The preserve is large, but tourists are confined to about 20 per cent of its area. The park is now home to 61 tigers, up from about 15 in the 1980s.
