Day11 – Pietrasanta

Today we visit Pietrasanta, a town first built by the Romans and widely known as a center for the arts, particularly sculpture. Pietrasanta is part of the Versilia Coast and is located about 20 miles north of Pisa.

Pietrasanta became important in the 15th century, when Michelangelo, then other artists, discovered the local white marble. Today the town is still home to many artists.

We happen to arrive on the first Sunday of the month, when Pietrasanta holds an antique fair. Booths and outdoor restaurants line the two main streets of the tiny old town.
