This morning we board the train from Florence to Pistoia, about a 40-minute local train ride, to take a tour of the Della Robbia frieze on the facade on the Ospedale del Ceppo in Pistoia. The tour, sponsored by the Museo Pistoia Sotteranea, has us climbing a scaffolding several stories high to bring us at eye level and about three feet away from the enormous terra cotta figures of the frieze.
